Workshop #2: Interspecies Togetherness - Togetherness, Fermentation and Bacterial Cultures

For the Audience, Visiting Industry Professionals and the Community
Mengna Tan & Jamila Barakat (INTERSPACE_COLLECTIVE)
indoor

This workshop deals with the art of fermentation, one of the oldest methods both for making food last longer as well as for changing its taste. Depending on the culture in question, the recipes can be very different. Amongst all of this, one thing remains in common, that is, the transformation of food with the help of bacterial, fungal and cell cultures. In doing so, food as well as the process of fermentation in particular can be seen as the medium of social interaction of sharing and coming together. The shared preparation, perception and tasting represents an existential component of social connection that provides identity, a form of togetherness. The concept of this workshop was inspired by the artistic practice of Melina Matzanke.

Everyone is welcome in this workshop that is interested in experimentation and who would like to explore new forms of interspecies togetherness.
