Kaffee mit Zucker?

Material Performance and Biographical Documentary Theater
Laia Rica

Starting off with coffee and sugar, Laia RiCa, who grew up in El Salvador and Germany, considers both her own biography as well as the stories of German immigrants to Latin America and their colonial continuities. Personal questions and doubts about belonging are juxtaposed with documentary material. Interwoven with live music, flying cotton candy and the scent of roasting coffee beans, Laia RiCa has found a unique aesthetic.

The performance is in German with Spanish and English surtitles. Coffee beans are used in the production and coffee is boiled, so there is a strong smell. Large-scale video projections, some flickering, loud music and strobe lights are used. There are excerpts from the film "The Civilization Bringers" in which racist terms are used and discriminatory language is used.
